Mind the Gap
Medium: Wood, Concrete, Steel, Aluminum, copper, canvas, paint, acrylic, Velum, ink and leather.
I grew up with dyslexia, mixing up similar letters and spelling phonetically. I always thought that something was wrong with me. I struggled to keep up in school and always lied about my reading. Throughout my entire pre-college career, I never read a complete book by myself. Gaps in my education were created, gaps I filled with creative playing, building and making.
Through my art, I wanted the viewer to see the struggle of spelling that I have in contrast to the craft and creativity. These words are the gaps, and the art was my solution.
Our flaws shape who we are and who we become, and I want to show others that my dyslexia is more a gift than a burden.
